After I signed in I found some wonderful things this morning! One was the Fairfield School list copyright Jane Dieffenbacher and the Kuyahoora Valley Historical Society. There I found my Abijah Durkee listed. What I am needing to find is documentation for the events and dates that I already have in my data base. Specifically: (1) Abijah DURKEE married about 1807 Eliza HADCOCK (2) Deaths of Mary Durkee (probably quite young, but she was reported on the same list as Abijah as attending school) (3) Nathaniel Durkee b. 15 Jun 1798 Fairfield, Herkimer Co., NY (4) Sarah Durkee b. 1802 Farifield, Herkimer Co., NY (5) Any references to the family of Amos COOK/COOKE or his wife Sarah (BRADFORD) Cook/Cooke or dau. Rebecca. I have been seeking copies of census index for your county. I can't acquire them in my local library in isolated northeastern corner of Colorado. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can give.

I am seeking the ancestors of Elizabeth PUTNAM (aka BODMAN) born - perhaps Warren, Herkimer County, 3 Feb 1781. Perhaps d/o Victor, s/o John. She was a wife of Daniel DEVENDORF, b. German Flatts, Herkimer County 3 Aug 1780, d. 21 May 1855, Kent County, MI. Also, do you have data that would indicate Elizabeth's parents, and ancestors in America, esp, if related to either Gideon, of Saratoga Springs, or General Israel Putnam? Such family lore exists - but unsubstantiated. My 4th gr-grandfather was Captain Jacob Diefendorff, s/o Johannnes and Elizabeth (KELLAR) Diefendorff ( nee Deubendorffer). Randy Diefendorf.

My ggg-grandparents Isahel ANDREWS and Lucy MERRY came to Busti, Chautauqua Co. NY from Litchfield, Herkimer Co. NY in 1813. Ashael applied for a land transaction on the same day 6 Jul 1825 as Salmon Andrews, leading me to believe they were related. The information I have is as follows: Isahel Andrews b. ? Jul 1777 d. 4 Jul 1862 in Busti, married 18 Oct 1798 to Lucy Merry b. 15 Nov 1780, d. 19 Aug 1860 in Busti, NY (near Jamestown).

They had 11 children:

According to "A History of Chautauqua County", both the Andrews and Merry families trace their ancestry to England, and that Asahel Andrews was a native of Herkimer county. I am seeking more information on these families. Cheryl Johnson

Bodwell LADD b. 12 Dec 1750 in Haverhill, Essex, MA, a soldier of the Revolution, m. Martha LEWIS sometime before 1799, place unknown, but she is said to have been "of Mohawk, NY." Their children were Mary/Polly (1799), Bodwell [Jr] (1801), Achsah (1805) and Harriet (1809).

Bodwell Ladd died 15 Oct 1829 in Theresa, Jefferson, NY. His wife died 22 Oct 1812, place unknown. Bodwell Ladd's age at marriage ca. 1799 was close to 50. His wife Martha had their last known child Harriet in 1809. It would appear that Martha was a good 15 years younger than Bodwell, so she may well have been his second wife. It is not clear if Bodwell was her first husband -- he may have been.

Seeking (1) possible first wife of Bodwell Ladd, plus any children from such a marriage; (2) ancestry of Martha Lewis; (3) place of death of Martha Lewis.

Any help much appreciated. By the way, the answers to the above questions are not in the genealogy by Warren Ladd, as far as I can determine. Dave Simonds

My ggg-grandfather was Oliver Guild and that lineage can be looked at back to the 1600 in the book, "The Genealogy and History of the Guild, Guile, and Guile Family" by Charles Burleigh, printed in 1887. In this book are many names listed as living in West Winfield, Winfield, Plainfield, etc. My gg-grandfather, Hiram Sanger CHAPMAN, b. 4-01-1796, married Polina GUILD, Oliver's daughter, May 5, 1834 in West Winfield. This is where I am at a standstill, unable to locate parents or anything else about Hiram. I am wondering if any connection to Jotham Chapin, as everyone knows spelling was not always accurate in the early years??
