SALISBURY: I am looking for information on the SALISBURY family. I know that they settled in New york at one time or another. They may even have come into this country through New York, (not sure of this), but I know that they spent some time in New York. Is there, or was there, such a place as Norway and/or Russia, New York? I have some family information that tells me that they spent some time in these two cities. They were there in the early 1700's and 1800's. Can anyone help me? I am sure that they were all related, for when one of the family members died he had over one hundred ggggrandchildren, or so the article I have said. Some of the names that I am looking for are: Ackland, Nathaniel, Matilda, William and Richard. Of course, I could go on forever for they must have had to have used every name available to name all the descendants that there are to this family name. These people were statesman, farmers, cheese buyers, and educators. Has anyone ever heard or know about a district of yore known as "Dairy Hill"? My family owned a farm in that district. Some of the family fought in the War of 1812 from New York. Some fought with Great Britan. I think that they came here from England or Wales. Please see if you might be able to help me. I also know that they lived in a town called Fairfield. I do not know what counties any of these places are in. Pat Salisbury. Note: Pat finally found the right page to post on. Can anyone help her out?

Looking for information on ancestry of Henry WILES (WEYL, WEIL) and Elizabeth FRITCHER (FRITSCHER). Earliest information we have is their marriage at the Reformed Church at Stone Arabia, Montgomery Co., on Oct. 4, 1768. Henry died in Huntsville in Otsego County NY in 1821. Elizabeth died in 1852 in Cortland Co. NY at the age of 104.
Much of our information comes from a Revolutionary War record which consists mainly of Elizabeth's application for pension in which she dictates all she remembers about Henry's service (fascinating!!). Incidentally, the record indicates that he fought in the "Oriscany Battle with the Indians and British". Historical information concerning the Battle of Oriskany does not include his name. Should it? I am looking for any information about my fourth great grandfather: Robert SIXBURY/SIXBERRY/ SIXBY. The surname apparently originated from two surnames, (Sixby + Bury). He was a hunter, trapper and early pioneer of New York State. Newspaper articles (from 1940's) in Jefferson County, N.Y. state he was born in 1763, at sea. Both parents (Dutch) died shortly after arrival. How soon after? What were their names? What REALLY was the original surname?
He was apparently adopted by a wealthy family by the name of Bury. The Bury family lived at or near Catskill, New York. Robert Sixbury was apparently christened at the age of 2 in 1765 in a Catholic church by the Bury's. The only first name of the Bury family I am aware of is that of Robert Bury, one of the sons.
In what church was Sixbury/Sixberry christened? Married Betsey HOOVER in Little Falls, Herkimer Co., N.Y. 1800? 1801? Betsey died 10 Jul 1849 and is b. Hoover Cem, Jeff. Co. Robert Sixbury died in Le Ray, Jefferson County, Oct. 23, 1873.
Robert and Betsey's children were:
Elmira: m. 04 Feb 1841 Joseph BESHA
Betsy: m. A. J. SHATTUCK
Mary: m. Isaac CUSHMAN
Lydia: m. William KELLAR
John: b. 1800
Jacob: b. 09 Jan 1801; d. 1892-1893; 2nd mar. Mary HOOVER

Annie: b. 16 Mar 1810, d. 24 Oct 1864; m. Isaac WALDRADT
