Looking for information on the Nicholas BOODY family of Herkimer and Oneida County, NY. They lived in this area from 1790? until 1837 when some of them moved to Eaton County, MI. Jacob Boody stayed behind, as others may have also done. He lived near Westernville, NY and Rome Historical Society has quite a bit of info. about his accomplishments. Related surnames are NICHOLS, WINN, MOE, HOUSE, EICHNER. Nicholas Boody's children were Peter, John, Daniel, Catherine, Mary, Nicholas and Jacob. (That we know of.) If you know where the Boody family originally came from, please let me know. They spoke German, but we think they may have actually come from Holland. Were they related to the Boodys who lived in Vermont and New Hampshire?

I'm interested in the AMES Cemetery in Sharon Springs, Montgomery Co., NY. Does anyone have a listing? Thanks.

Note: Irene's query is most timely. Sharon Springs is actually 3 to 4 miles south of the border of the town of Canajoharie, in the township of Sharon in Schoharie County. If anyone has a list of this cemetery, please send us a copy. We are currently making charts showing townships in neighboring counties that border Herkimer and Montgomery Counties border townships. This will be posted within the week.

Looking for birth info of my g-grandmother Tryphena TAYLOR (maiden name) born 5 Feb 1833 in Herkimer County. Do not have parents' names. Tryphena's listing on 1850 census states her father was from England and her mother from NH, but no names have surfaced yet. Her husband was Ambrose D. TURNER, who was born in Maine, but I don't know if they marr. in Wisconsin or where yet. She was a teacher in Sheboygan on 1850 census there, not married. Ambrose lived in Lake Co. IL, but I have not been able to run down their marr. certificate in either state as yet. They soon after marriage moved to Boone Co. IL, where they both died. On her death certificate, there are no parents listed either. We have searched 1830 and 1840 census as well.

Also have info on the AVERY family who lived at Broadalbin (now Fulton County). Ever run across the name PAWLEY, PAULEY, PAULI etc. in the Mohawk Valley? Palatines - they were displaced persons because of the "Troubles" and had to go to Canada in 1783. Also try http://home.ican.net/~bedmonds/ElginOGS. It is our local genealogical home page. A lot of people from the Mohawk Valley, N.J. and New England worked their way through to Michigan and west.

Surname: FREDENDALL, Lawrence, b. abt 1810-9. Lived in Duanesburg, Schenectady Co., moved to Montgomery Co. (Fonda or ?Florida), about 1850. Appears in 1865 Census, Town of Florida, Montgomery Co., NY, District 1, page 1, which lists family #44 as (Info from an old family letter):

Surname: WOODBECK. William Henry, m. Marion Mathilda Fredendall after 1865. Her name on the marriage cert. appears as Matilda FRIGHTENDOL. Thank you for this wonderful Web-site...GOOD JOB! Sue.

Note: Starting in the early 19th century, New York State conducted state censuses that were taken mid-decade. Not all of these survive for any given census year for any given county. In the 1865 census for Montgomery County that Sue refers to above, people were asked to give the county they were born in. Jerry Reed has made a chart of the surviving censuses on his Otsego County GenWeb page. Copies of these censuses are at the State Library in Albany and at the library in Cooperstown, NY for on-site use. Jerry's award-winning Civil War section also includes rosters of all the area companies of the 121st NY Volunteer Infantry and is a great resource to search for ancestral surnames and Civil War soldiers enlisting from Herkimer and Montgomery Counties. Other regimental rosters of Civil War soldiers are in our Where the Boys Were section.

I'm helping a friend (I hope!) find out about John FERGUSON, who was in Montgomery up to about 1813, before leaving for Wayne Co. He had nine sons: Jacob, David, Stephen, Nicholas, Boice (which I think may have been Bryce), Hiram, Abraham, Emery and George B. His daughter Margaret married Samuel MINKLY. Of course, I'm trying to find parents for John Ferguson. So far, nothing in the church books or land records or surrogate records.

I am looking for a Samuel ADAMS b. 1793 in Montgomery County, NY. He married a Mary Jemima JUDD b. 1794 in NY (don't know where). They had 6 children (we think all born in Buffalo, Erie County:

The problem I've run into is I don't know the Township in which Samuel was born. My mother and I went to the Fonda Historical Archives Dept. and all the Bible records were for each township. They did have quite a bit of info there but we were not able to spend enough time. We have yet to find Samuel Adams in census records. An inconsistency we found was Samuel's first child, Henry (our line), was born in 1820 in Erie County. But it wasn't Erie county till 1821. So that means he was actually recorded on the Niagara county census. Well we will keep plugging, any additional help you might be able to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Seeking origins of Private John WINN, who served in the 1st and 2nd regiments of the Tryon County Militia. At the end of the 1830's John and Mary moved to Eaton Rapids, Michigan, where Mary died 13 Sep 1848. John married (2) Lucina (OAKES) Boody, widow of Daniel Boody, originally from Oneida County, New York.

Several of their children were born in Montgomery Co. starting in 1827. Dr. Mulford would have been an early physician in the county. In about 1842, they moved to Walworth Co., WI where Dr. Mulford practiced medicine and farmed. In 1850 he was one of the signers of the Wisconsin State Constitution. I am trying to locate the parents of Zilpah Packard and make a connection to the name of their first named son: Delos WHITE MULFORD.
