My ggrandparents, Lowell and Mary Ann (BRANT) HAMILTON are buried in Old Forge Cemetery located in the Village of Old Forge, Town of Webb, Herkimer Co., NY. I am looking for information about their daughter Margaret Almira Hamilton b. 6/16/1879 and died 8/1/1930. She married H. Frederick ELLMERS(ELMERS) on 10/26/1915. I would like to know if she is also buried in the Old Forge Cemetery or another cemetery nearby. I would also like to know if her husband H. Frederick Ellmer, b. 8/7/1880, is buried with her. I don't know when he died or even if he remarried. If he did remarry, he might be buried with his 2nd wife. I think the Ellmers had a house on Twitchell Lake, a lake in the Town of Webb, Herkimer County, located not too far northeast of Big Moose. Any information that can be found will be greatly appreciated. Richard Lumley, 201 Main Street, Gouverneur, NY 13642; email firstname.lastname@example.org

Two ENGLISH family ancestors from Norway, Herkimer Co., NY, of Irish descent, served with Capt. Jared Smith Co. in 1811-12. Do any of you 1812 War experts know which side this outfit was on? They were William English, Thomas English and Robert English. Probably all were children or grandchildren of Robert English Sr., who settled in Norway just before 1800.

I just found something on the 1880 census and it may be something for me. I am currently living in Japan, so doing research for myself is a little hard. The name I found was Alexander ETHERTON, age 21, a resident employee in Daniel MOYERS home. My grandmother has a brother named Alexander Etherton. According to my grandmother, her mother was born in Little Falls; she doesn't remember where her father was born. This is the information she gave me: Charles ETHERTON (1886-1942) married Ida May or Mae ANEVRY (1900-1963). Charles and Ida's children were: Anna May or Mae, Edith (Grandmother), William, Charles Jr., Lena, Alexander, Emma, James William DINGHAM (half-brother). Any information would be extremely helpful. Thank you. Rosemarie A. Denis. Home page http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/8132
Update: 10/3/96 - I have made a hit so to speak. I posted a query about the Alexander Etherton i found in the 1880 census. I thought I would take a wild stab at asking my grandmother if she could remember her grandfather's name. I couldn't believe she said Alexander Etherton. I just about fell out of my chair. With his age in 1880, the location, the fact that my Grandmother has a brother named Alexander, and that I found no other Ethertons in New York as of yet, I can't help but believe this Alexander Etherton is my grandmother's grandfather. Since I am positive he is I thought I would add what my grandmother told me. She thinks that Alexander's wife's name was Lena. She doesn't know if they had any other children besides Charles Etherton.
