FENTON James; NY, USA NTH, ENG; c. 1841: Looking for James FENTON born in New York c. 1841, by 1869 he had married Annie ____, from Towcester, near Northampton (NTH, ENG). In 1891 was living in Northampton, ENG with seven children (Annie, Emily, George, Harry, Kate, Jessie and Mabel) all born in England. Any clues to James FENTON's origins, parents, and suggestions why he moved to England appreciated. Are there any likely Fentons in the Census 1845 - 1865 for Herkimer/Montgomery Counties? (Note: There were many Fentons in Newport and Norway, Herkimer County. It's a long shot but perhaps we can help him out.)

I'm helping a friend (I hope!) find out about John FERGUSON, who was in Montgomery up to about 1813, before leaving for Wayne Co. He had nine sons: Jacob, David, Stephen, Nicholas, Boice (which I think may have been Bryce), Hiram, Abraham, Emery and George B. His daughter Margaret married Samuel MINKLY. Of course, I'm trying to find parents for John Ferguson. So far, nothing in the church books or land records or surrogate records.

Seeking any information about New York families named FETTERLY (also Vetterly, Vetterlie, Vatterly). My fifth-great grandfather Peter Fetterly was born in Montgomery County about 1774, and had most of his children near Germann Flats, Herkimer, NY. He later relocated to Jefferson County, NY, along with many of his children, including my fourth-great grandmother, Laney (Fetterly) STARRING. Peter's father, Henry VATTERLY, died in the Battle of Oriskany in 1777. The Oriskany record found at the Oriskany Historical Society is the only record I have found on his service. (The DAR doesn't even list him).

Cruikshank Wed 05 Mar 1997
Am trying to find any info on John GERMAN, Sr., 1740 - 1800. We believe he was one of the German settlers in the Palatine immigrations, or possibly a mercenary with the British Army. We know that he was a British loyalist and moved to Canada after the Revolution. Have no idea where he lived in the US before moving to Canada, but it seems likely it was New York or Pennsylvania. Any info on this, or on the German family in general? We suspect that the name is a revision of the original. Dr. Beth Cruikshank. Miami, Manitoba, Canada. dcruiksh@cici.mb.ca Note: although this does not cite our counties specifically, some of our Palatine and Loyalist experts may have some suggestions.
